Despite only joining the BJCC care team in 2016, Janine (Umberger) Gurtowski is no stranger to Pennsylvania or to the health sciences. Janine was born and raised in Berks County, graduated from Governor Mifflin High School, and earned her Bachelor of Science degree at East Stroudsburg University. After developing a passion for the medical sciences through her biology major at East Strousburg, Janine pursued and earned a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies degree at DeSales University.
It was during her clinical rotations that Janine began to develop an interest in Orthopedics. After graduating and passing her licensing exams, Janine joined the staff at the Bone & Joint Care Center, where she is responsible for administering pre and post-operative care, as well as providing assistance during surgery for new and established patients. Janine’s more-recent training has helped the BJCC develop policies and patient-care processes that are in line with the most current medical practices and guidelines, and her positive energy and recent experience in a variety of clinical settings is of clear benefit to our patients.
Janine is a member of the Pennsylvania Physician Assistant Society (PSPA) and the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA). She was recently married, and when she isn’t in the office caring for patients, Janine enjoys hiking, skiing and spending time with her family.
