Dr. Stephen Longenecker is a native of Berks County who graduated from Schuylkill Valley High School and Albright College before matriculating at Temple University School of Medicine. After graduating, Dr. Longenecker remained in Philadelphia where he completed his residency requirements at Temple University Hospital and Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children. He then completed a fellowship in Joint Reconstruction at the New England Baptist Hospital in Boston, followed by a fellowship in Adult Orthopaedic Trauma at Sunnybrook Medical Center. In 1992, Dr. Longenecker returned home to the Reading area, where he has raised his family and built a medical practice for over twenty years.
Focusing his practice on arthroplasty, Dr. Longenecker is able to provide the latest technology in joint replacement. This includes primary and revision joint replacement, partial joint replacement, minimally invasive arthroplasty, computer assisted surgery, use of alternative bearings (including ceramic and enhanced polyethylene to provide implant longevity), and procedures especially designed for active individuals and for women.
For more than ten years, Dr. Longenecker has served on the leadership team that developed the Reading Heath System’s Joint Care Center. Currently, Dr. Longenecker serves as the Medical Director of the Joint Care Center, which has become JCAHO Certified for both Hip and Knee Replacement. Dr. Longenecker is board certified by The American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, a fellow in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery (AAOS), and a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS). He is also a long-standing member of the Pennsylvania Medical Society and the Berks County Medical Society.
